Foundation grant submission system
Welcome to the Foundation of the National Lipid Association Educational Grant Submission System. This site is designed to provide information and support related to the application and processing of requests for grants made or administered by the Foundation of the National Lipid Foundation.
Please note that the Foundation cannot make grants outside of the United States and International Grant Applications and Accounts are not accepted.
Criteria for Grants
The Foundation of the NLA currently offers grant support to eligible applicants for research, medical education and community outreach programs that support the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation has established the following issues as priorities and primary areas of focus for grant funding:
- Genetic disorders
- Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH)
- Primordial prevention
- Children
- Underserved populations
All grants must meet submission criteria assigned by the Foundation of the National Lipid Association grants review committee prior to being accepted for funding.
Grants will be awarded one time only for a specific project; if you or your organization has been awarded a grant from the FNLA in the past, you may apply for another grant but it must be for a different research project.
The Foundation of the National Lipid Foundation currently offers the following types of grants:
Research Grants
To be considered for this type of grant the research must be related to original research in dyslipidemia, cardiometabolic disorders, CV risk reduction, and related efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with dyslipidemias. Applications will be received on an ongoing basis and will be reviewed by members of the FNLA board. Research grants are meant to be provided for start-up/seed projects and not ongoing projects. Funds will not be provided to purchase animals for research projects.
These grants will be awarded in amounts of $5,000 or less.
Medical Education Grants
Grants will be considered for educational activities in the therapeutic areas of dyslipidemia, cardiometabolic disorders, CV risk reduction, and related efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with dyslipidemias. Educational grant requests will only be accepted for Certified CME or CE activities developed by an accredited provider, or for non-certified Independent Medical Education activities under the control of a non-profit organization. Funding will not be provided for food, beverages, A/V equipment, or room rental. Funds may be granted for speaker/faculty honorarium.
Grants made for these activities will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 or less.
Community Outreach Grants
Grants are made for community outreach programs in the areas of dyslipidemia, cardiometabolic disorders, CV risk reduction, and related efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with dyslipidemias. Funding may be used to develop educational materials for patients and the public. Community outreach grants will only be considered if the requester is a nonprofit organization or if the activity is sponsored by a nonprofit organization.
Grants in this area will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 or less.
Hardship Grants
The Foundation of the National Lipid Association (“Foundation”) Board of Directors may award a Hardship Grant to promote the mission of the NLA and the Foundation. Funds shall typically be awarded for attendance at NLA scientific meetings, ancillary courses, or other professional endeavors in Clinical Lipidology including seeking certification by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology or the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology to any United States professional qualified for membership in the NLA experiencing a discernable financial hardship for training in the lipid field. Awarded funds shall only be used to defray attendance costs such as transportation, lodging, meeting or course registration fees, or application costs associated with certification in Clinical Lipidology. A Hardship Grant shall not exceed $1,000 and all receipts will be required to ensure the most economical use of funds.

An online Grant Application Form and complete instructions can be found on this site. To start, either login to your existing grant system account or create a grant system account as appropriate below. A single account can apply for and manage multiple grant submissions, therefore you do not need a new account for each grant application submitted. By registering, you can save your online grant applications and complete them at your convenience. In addition, you can check on the status of your pending applications. It's easy, and it's password-protected to ensure security.
Please note that completed applications, including all supporting documentation, must be submitted at least 60 business days prior to the date you need to receive a funding decision regarding your grant application. Each application is given careful consideration as part of a rigorous evaluation by the Foundation Grants Review Committee. Accordingly, it may take up to three weeks for you to receive a decision regarding your application. Once approved, grant payments will be made within two weeks (10 business days).
Please also note that at this time, the Foundation only accepts requests for research, medical education, hardship, and community outreach grants.
